Zarif presents Iran’s demands on border incident to Pakistan

Islamabad, May 3, IRNA – Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday met with Pakistani Interior minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here and presented him the Iranian demands for a better cooperation between the two countries on recent border incident which resulted in martyrdom of some Iranian border guards.

The foreign minister was accompanied by Governor of Sistan-Baluchestan Ali Osat Hashemi, Deputy Chief of Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Gholam Reza Mehrabi, Iranian Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Qasem Rezaee, Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hussein Zulfiqari and Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost during the meeting.

The members of delegation gave their own views to have better understanding between Iran and Pakistan on border issues in the meeting.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, leading a top-ranking delegation arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday morning on a day-long visit and is scheduled to meet with a number of officials in the neighboring country.

Last Wednesday, nine Iranian border guards were martyred and two others injured by terrorists near Pakistan border in southeastern province of Sistan-Balouchestan, when they were patrolling at the zero border point. The terrorists after the killings and abducting one Iranian border guard fled to Pakistan’s territories.

Earlier, President Hassan Rouhani in a written massage to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had asked Pakistan to take urgent and serious measures for securing border and bring terrorist elements to justice.
